About Us....Chartered May 10, 1946. Present Membership 17 ACCOMPLISHMENTS:During our operating years of 2001-2002 through 2007-2008, our club...
YOUTH PROJECTS:One of the oldest continuing projects is the Halloween Parade. Started in 1946, it remains one of the Club's strongest youth activities. With the support of Centre Region Parks & Recreation, the Club provides treats and prizes for approzimately 1200 marchers in the annual event. Further support of youth in the Club's service area is the award of $3,000 in Scholarships to members of the graudating class of the State College Area High School as well as sponsoring of a Little League baseball team. BLINDNESS AND EYE DISEASE PROJECTS:Since projects addressing the problems of blindness and eye disease are major objectives of Lions international, the Club is involved in several such activities. Eye examinations and glasses are provided to needy residents of the area without charge. Used eyeglasses are collected and forwarded to agencies that distribute them to people in third world countries. Financial support is provided to the Sight Loss Support Group of Central Pennsylvania along with transportation of sight handicapped members to meetings. FUND RAISING:Fund raising by the Club is accomplished by operating food concessions at local events such as the State College Area High School Football games and Penn State's Ag Progress days. A food service trailer, remodeled and equipped by club members, is the focal point of these activities. Revenues from this endeavor are used to support many local Club and community activities. CENTRE LIONS FORESIGHT COMMITTEE:Many members of the Club are also active in the Centre Lions Foresight Committee. This organization comprised of members of all of the Lions and Lioness Clubs in the Centre County area. It provides a mechanism for the clubs to address problems which are too large for any one club to handle. in the past, this group has worked with the 4H to raise dogs to be used at the Leader Dog School and has supported WPSX's effort to provide Descriptive Video Services to assist the sight handicapped in their understanding of broadcast television materials.
